Most people feel that jorts is a derogatory term because jean shorts are an item of clothing which receive high amounts of criticism. The most notable form of jorts are created when men cut a pair of long tight blue jeans to make them into thigh-hugging shorts.
Jorts also receive a lot of criticism because of the people that are often seen wearing them. Jort wearers are often thought of as "white trash" or rednecks. The following are a few examples of people wearing jorts.
According to UrbanDictionary.com Jorts are...
- "A combination of the words "jean" and "shorts" used to describe the hideous attire, usually sported by NASCAR afficianados and men over 40. Sometimes Jorts are accessorized with a lovely cellphone belt clip and a braided leather belt, but not always. Sometimes the Jorts wearer lets the Jorts speak for themselves."
For some reason people have begun to associate jorts as an item of clothing worn frequently by University of Florida fans. Below is another jorts definition from Urban Dictionary which makes a specific reference to this.
- "Jean shorts, such as those worn by male Florida Gator fans at the Georgia-Florida football game."
Example of jorts used in context...
- "Don't talk to him; he's obviously a Florida fan with those jorts he's wearing."
